Title 1
Intaglio ink, a specialized type of ink, plays a vital role in security printing. Known for its unique properties and distinct application process, intaglio ink has become a hallmark of high-quality, secure documents and banknotes worldwide.
Title 2
The use of intaglio ink is closely associated with the engraving technique. This process involves creating images or text by pressing marks into a metal surface, usually copper or steel. The engraved areas, or recesses, are filled with intaglio ink, while the unengraved portions remain ink-free. Then a plate is wiped clean—leaving only the intaglio in its recessed areas. A high-pressure press forces the substrate against the plate and transfers ink to it, resulting in a raised tactile print. The combination of intaglio ink and the intaglio printing technique allows for the creation of exceptionally detailed images and microtext, which are challenging to reproduce without access to the original plates.
