Robust Anti-Counterfeit Solution for the Milk Powder Industry
The global dairy market notched a total value of $718.9 billion in 2019 of which a substantial part is accounted for by milk powder (over $27 billion in 2017). However, the industry is beset with the problem of counterfeit products that both cause grievous harm to people’s health and do incalculable damage to a brand’s image and reputation.
In addition to using advanced technologies for detection of food fraud, NanoMatriX is also using more sophisticated systems (TrackMatriX®) for improving traceability of milk products and ingredients from “farm to fork” that are required to combat food fraud.
Serious Global Threat: Counterfeit Milk Powder
Some of the problems faced by milk powder manufacturers and brands have to do with food safety & quality concerns, product tampering, parallel-trading and return fraud. Another issue is how consumers would be able to differentiate genuine versus fake milk powder.

Robust Solutions to Combat Milk Fraud
High-Security Labels
NanoMatriX’s multi-level anti-counterfeit labels with embedded, overt, covert and forensic features helps milk powder manufacturers and brand owners fight milk fraud.
The security graphic features are designed through special anti-counterfeiting software to create a non-duplicable image through mathematical algorithms.
- Guilloche: Form of two or even more interwoven fine lines to generate specific patterns by mathematical algorithms.
- Relief: Line patterns with line width modulation, wavy line patterns and which can enhance convex and three-dimensional display effect of graphics.
- Anti-copy: Combination of special line patterns and graphics to form a graphic in split lines. Split lines appear when the magnifying glass is used. The split lines can serve as anti-copy lines, thereby being blurred out when photo-copies are made from the original document.
- Latent image: Hidden patterns or texts. Integration of parallel lines, Guilloche and patterns as a hidden anti-counterfeiting covert information.
- Microtext: Tiny texts that can only be viewed when magnified. Any reproduction machine is unable to identify and copy the microtext but in dotted or solid line because of downgrading resolution after scanning or photocopying.
Holographic Labels
Holographic labels can be custom designed to protect milk powder packages from counterfeiting and pilferage via their overt, covert and forensic features.
Their tamper-evident features and the diverse range of security inks used in our labels empower both consumers and inspectors to identify counterfeit products and forestall parallel trading, warranty return fraud or product dilution.
Our novel hologram authentication technology (used in conjunction with QR codes) can be used as anti-fraud detection systems and traceability systems.
Security Inks
NanoMatriX offers a wide variety of security inks that are foolproof tools to fight counterfeiting. These security inks which have been successfully used in banknotes can now be used by milk powder manufacturers to protect their brands.
These can be easily printed onto milk powder packaging making them effectively fraud-proof. Security inks are versatile since they can be used with different printing methods and come in a vast array of colors and properties.
Thermochromic Inks
Thermochromic inks change color in response to temperature fluctuations. It can be used to authenticate the genuine goods when the color appears correctly.
Photochromic Inks
Photochromic inks are invisible under artificial light and will appear visible once exposed to outdoor sunlight or UV / black light.
Color Changing Inks
Color changing inks and coatings change color when viewed at a different angle. The change of color is created by specialty pigments, which reflect light differently when viewed at a different angle.
MatriX-Mark™ Solutions
These taggants (chemical tracers) are super-invisible particles (cannot be detected by IR / UV) and can be mixed in printing ink for packaging labels or milk powder containers. The taggants can only be detected using dedicated scanners. These inorganic markers also withstand high physical and chemical resistance tests which helps in long-term authentication.
In addition, these can be used in conjunction with different printing methods in a diverse array of colors. Being covert in nature, the MatriX-Mark™ taggants will enable milk powder manufacturers to add a range of digital and forensic signatures to all their products.
TrackMatriX® SaaS Solutions
TrackMatriX® is a SaaS on-demand platform for brand protection and consumer engagement.
The platform features product authentication, supply chain traceability, and consumer engagement via QR codes or NFC tags. It allows food companies to track products from the factory to the retail store and up to the consumer.
Using TrackMatriX®, milk powder manufacturers will be able to monitor high-value product flows, gain deep consumer and supply chain insights / data sets, and leverage automatic reporting of counterfeiting attempts.
The platform provides milk brand owners deep consumer and supply chain insights like real-time GPS location, scanning frequencies, and even suspicious activity alerts. Meanwhile such data is also transferable to complement the client’s CRM/ERP/POS systems, thereby adding further value to the client’s consumer and supply chain database.
